Thomas Cochrane was, basically, the real life Horatio Hornblower or John Aubrey. He’s the captain who stands as the foundation of the whole naval warfare genre. I’ll be reading his autobiography, and possibly his son’s biography of him as well, into audiobook format.  My hope is to do one chapter a week after I attend my brother’s wedding in November.

The research has already started.  Did you know that although Bristih people say “leftenant” and Americans say “lootenant” the Royal Navy has always said “letenant”?  Weird but true!
